Whether you are a running novice, an occasional jogger, or marathoner, running can get to be monotonous.. These apps will help you shake-up your routine and make reaching your lofty running goals that much easier.
For the running novice (or want-to-be runner): Get Running (Couch to 5K)
The Get Running app is designed to do exactly what it says – get people off the couch and running! The app walks the user through a 9-week training plan, that gradually gets them from nothing to running – and by the end of the training plan a 5k is easy-peasy. A great touch is the friendly human voice that talks the user through every stage of the training plan with both encouraging words, and useful tips for warming-up and cooling-down.

For the jogger: MapMyRun
MapMyRun is a great app for those who want to spice up their routine run and discover new routes, while tracking their progress. The app allows users to use the built-in GPS in their device to track their fitness activities. MapMyRun records and saves workout details such as duration, distance, pace, speed, elevation, and calories burned. In addition, the app displays an interactive map with details of the route traveled and historical route data.

For the marathoner: RunKeeper
The RunKeeper app is popular among individuals training for a long run like a 10k, half-marathon, or marathon (26.2 miles – OUCH). The app allows users to track their pace, measure workout distance, and chart weight loss. Like other running apps, RunKeeper uses GPS to track routes. Specific to runners in training, the app allows users to see where they are in their training plan, because every time they log in, the RunKeeper saves the workout data and displays easy-to-read charts for activities (like how many miles you logged in last week, and the week before, and so on). RunKeeper makes it easy to see improvement over time, and charting progress makes following through with your training plan and reaching that race goal easier.
